Everyone has heard that being physically active is essential to living a healthy lifestyle. Getting regular exercise can be easier said than done, however. It seems like everyone is busier than ever.
If you’re one of those people who has a busy schedule and never seems to have enough time to exercise, what are some things you can do to fit it in?
Wake Up Early
If you just need more time in the day, consider waking up earlier to exercise. You don’t have to wake up a lot earlier. Even working out for 15 minutes a day can be enough to make a difference in your health.
That’s not a major adjustment for most people (as long as you’re going to bed early enough that you’re still getting a good amount of sleep). There are pros and cons to morning exercise, just as there are for any other time of day. Ultimately, as long as you pick a time and stick with it, you can enjoy the benefits of regular exercise. Waking up early is just one way to make time for it.
Ride a Bike
Sometimes all you have to do to fit exercise into your day is to change how you’re doing things. Fit exercise into your day by using a bike to get around when it’s feasible. Riding a bike works your cardiovascular system and your lower body while being gentle on your joints.
Riding a bike also comes with mental health benefits. Take stock of the trips you take and the errands you run. See which ones you can use a bike as transportation for instead of a vehicle to fit exercise into your schedule.
Build More Steps into Your Day
Walking is a great way to exercise, and similarly to riding a bike, there are some simple changes you can make to get walking more. Choose parking spots farther away from building entrances, choose the stairs instead of elevators and escalators, and walk to and from places when it makes sense. Consider taking short walking breaks too. Shoot for 10-minute bouts of walking if you want them to count toward your daily exercise, but simply walking more is still beneficial, even if it’s not for a full 10 minutes at a time.
You need to figure out how to fit exercise into your schedule, no matter how busy you are. The good news is that you don’t have to schedule gym time to be active. You can build exercise into your schedule in small increments throughout the day. That alone is far better for you than not doing anything at all.
