How to Make it More Likely You’ll Stick to Your Health Goals

Most people have some sort of health goal they want to achieve. Working towards achieving health goals is a great way to take a proactive approach to protecting your health and wellness. Of course, sticking to them is often easier said than done, but there are some things you can do to make it more likely that you will.

Create a Specific Plan

In order to achieve your goal, you need to have a specific plan in mind. Your plan should include micro goals that will lead up to your overall goals and the steps you intend to take to make it there. Plan out your timing, when you intend to execute the steps during the day, week, and month. Identify milestones and decide when you intend to reach them. As you figure out your plan, make sure you build some fun into it. For example, if you have a goal to become more physically fit, you’ll find greater success if you choose physical activities you genuinely enjoy.

Have Others Hold You Accountable

It can be really tough to keep yourself motivated if you’re working on your health goals all on your own. Mixing your health goals with your social life can make it easier to achieve them. It can be easier to feel inclined to work on your goals if you have to check in with someone else. You may be less inclined to make excuses or to feel like they are valid if you have to justify them to someone aside from yourself. Consider going beyond just reporting to someone else and get them actively involved in obtaining your goals. Having someone working towards your goal alongside you makes it easier to stay accountable for your efforts and progress.

Remember Your Why

Sticking with your goals is easier if you have a strong reason to achieve them. Find ways to remember the reason behind your goals. You may find it helpful to write down your goals and the reasons for achieving them and then posting it somewhere highly visible. If you need an extra push, try visualization. Strong visualization can make it easier to achieve your goals.

If you don’t stick to your health goals, you won’t be able to reap the benefits of achieving them. You can make it more likely that you’ll stick with them by creating a specific plan, having others hold you accountable, and remembering the reason why you started. The more you keep at it, the easier it will become to reach your goals.
